marine bivalve shell of the genus Mactra, and allied genera.
Many species are known. Some of them are used as food, as Mactra
stultorum
, of Europe. See Surf clam, under

1. A spot, as on the skin, or on the surface of
the sun or of some other luminous orb.


2. (Zoöl.) A rather large spot or
blotch of color.

spot; to stain; to blur.
